Marketing Acronyms You Need to Know

When you are working with a web designer and a marketing company you will hear a lot of acronyms. All this jargon can be confusing, so we created a shortlist of important acronyms and meanings so that you can be informed about what everyone is talking about during the course of your project.

CTA-Call to Action

A call to action (CTA) on your website is an invitation to take the next step. A simple CTA is something such as, “contact us for more information,” is ok but generally, you want something more enticing. You want to make an offer that is worth taking the next step in the sales process.

CLV-Customer Lifetime Value

The customer lifetime value or CLV is the projected revenue you can expect from a customer over the lifetime of their relationship with your company. This information helps determine the return on investment of your marketing expenditure compared to how many clients are gained from your internet marketing efforts.

KPI-Key Performance Indicators

A key performance indicator or KPI is a measurement that has been deemed important to your campaign. All internet marketing will give you different measurements of success that may or may not line up with your goals. A KPI is a measurement that you deem as the success metric. For example, you may run a Facebook ad that drives traffic to your website. If all you want is traffic, then you can measure that alone. But if what you want are newsletter opt-ins you can compare the traffic and how much of that converted to an opt-in to measure success and refine your messaging. Good KPIs give you a deeper understanding of your results and ROI.

PPC-Pay Per Click

Pay-per-click or PPC advertising is a popular form of paid internet advertising that focuses on Google AdWords. When using PPC your ad is displayed on Google when a potential client searches for your product or service and you are charged when they click through to the ad landing page.

SEO-Search Engine Optimization

Search engine optimization or SEO is another internet marketing tactic focused on Google. In this case, you are using keywords to improve your ranking on google. SEO is vitally important to website success, so make sure your web design company has an understanding of this tactic.

UX-User Experience

User experience or UX is the practice of making websites as easy and user-friendly as possible. UX encompasses things like the site architecture, loading speed and how the site interacts with your other online platforms like social media. User experience is crucially important to retaining website users because when your site is complicated or does not function properly you lose people quickly and often for good.

When working with your web designer don’t be afraid to ask questions when you hear a term you are not familiar with. There is a lot of jargon that is second nature to web designers and internet marketers but sounds like gibberish to others. Knowing the important terms will allow you to make better decisions and understand your results.
